Hi there, and welcome to Zoe’s World! My name is Bernice, and I’m the proud mom of three wonderful daughters—Rhema, Zoe, and Melissa. Today, I want to share the story behind this blog and invite you to join us on a journey of hope, strength, and love.
Meet Zoe
Let me introduce you to Zoe, my incredible 11-year-old. Zoe is smart, brave, and full of life. She loves singing, reciting poems, and spreading joy wherever she goes. But Zoe’s journey hasn’t been an easy one.
Zoe was born with congenital glaucoma, a condition that caused high pressure in her eyes. The pressure wasn’t responding well to eye drops, so she had to undergo several surgeries to try to bring it down. The doctors explained that high pressure could damage her optic nerve, and once the nerve is damaged, it cannot be repaired.
Unfortunately, during one of the surgeries, an infection set in, and Zoe lost her sight completely at the age of 7. It was one of the hardest moments of our lives, but Zoe’s strength and resilience have taught me so much about courage and perseverance.
Why I Started This Blog
Raising a child with unique challenges has been a journey of learning and growth for our family. Over the years, I’ve realized that there are so many families out there who might feel overwhelmed or alone, especially single mothers like me who are on this journey alone. Zoe also wants to show the world that without sight she can still do the things she loves. That’s why I started Zoe’s World—to share our story, encourage others, and remind everyone that challenges can be overcome with love and support.
This blog is a space where we’ll:
Share Zoe’s adventures and the lessons she’s taught us.
Offer tips and advice for families raising differently-abled children.
Highlight inspiring stories of hope and resilience.
A Message for You
Life hasn’t always been easy, but Zoe has shown me that even in the toughest times, there’s still room for joy and growth. Her journey reminds us that setbacks don’t define us—how we choose to move forward does.
I hope this blog inspires you, whether you’re a parent, a single mom, a child, or someone looking for hope. You are not alone in your journey, and together, we can build a community of love and understanding.
